Idumea is a film-poem pulling terms from an encyclopedia of rocks and minerals to weave a hymn of rage and grief about genocide, extraction and extermination of land and people. It takes its name from a shape-note hymn that references the biblical region of historic Palestine.
Score by Daoure Diongue and Mark Navarro, additional music from the United Sacred Harp Musical Association.
Controlled burn filmed in collaboration with artist Patrick McGuan.
With generous support from the Stone Quarry Hill Art Park and Grand Valley State University.
