Fossil Memory traces history through direct and indirect artifacts, using planetary movements and geological records as jumping-off points for the exploration of personal narrative and subjective memory. By shooting on celluloid film, vignettes of past gestures are collapsed into mineral composition, activating silver to visually explore recollection. This work uses material history to probe unstable perceptions, connections and ephemerality. The installation uses a rotating mirror to mimic a solar eclipse, environmental sound filtered through rocks made into speakers, and both found and personal film slides related to autobiographical and geological history.
